Clinical Pilates
Clinical Pilates is a form of exercise that focuses on postural control, core stability, balance, strength, flexibility and breathing. At Recovery + we practice the APPI method, developed by physiotherapists, where traditional pilates movements are modified to consider the specific demands placed on the spine and limbs in relation to the client’s pain or movement experience.
This approach allows a client to be trained correctly from an injured state to a fully fit, functional and efficient state, no matter their starting fitness level.
Clinical Pilates differs from generic pilates classes as the practitioner will identify key movement deficits and apply carefully selected exercises to address these. This ensures optimal gains whilst minimising the risk of injury aggravation.
A clinical pilates session with Britt will involve a thorough assessment, discussion of past &/or present injuries and your specific goals moving forward. Britt will use a combination of mat based and reformer based exercises, depending on client preference and presentation.
There is no age limit or fitness level requirement to start a clinical pilates program. Programs will usually be 6-8 weeks in duration with home-based exercises prescribed to compliment our sessions.
